The best business investments I made in 2020

As a small business investing back into your business can be overwhelming. Where do you invest? How do you get the most out of your investments? What is worth your money?

Personally, I love hearing from other business owners what is working for them and discover new products or ideas I’ve never considered before. With that in mind, I’ve compiled a list of the best investments I made in 2020.

  1. Second Monitor (and allllll the tech accessories)

I’ve officially joined the second monitor club and there’s no looking back. This is the single biggest productivity hack of my year. After finally turning the dining room into an office (thanks pandemic), I decided to go all in on a new computer set up.

I opted for the Dell 24″ LED Monitor and my sweet partner gifted me an Apple Magic Keyboard and Mouse. To complete the setup, I ordered this laptop stand and this HDMI adapter (because Apple life).

My new set up is such a game changer and I don’t think I’ll ever go back!

2. Creative Business Accelerator

To be honest, I’m not a course person. I love learning from books, videos and blogs, but Creative Business Accelerator is worth. the. money. I’ve followed and enjoyed learning from Hilary Rushford for years and when I was in the middle of my pandemic pivot, this course helped me clarify and launch with ease.

I am not sure when the course will be open again, but I highly recommend checking it out when it does!

3. Elegant Excellence Goals Journal

There are few things in business I recommend more than goal setting. I started goal setting with Powersheets four years ago and purchased Hilary Rushford’s Elegant Excellence Goal’s Journal last December to use in 2020.

I cannot imagine a better journal for setting goals. It truly has it all and really helped me get out of my head and into actionable dreaming. There are still journals left for 2021 and she’s added SO many great new features. Also new this year: both journals (Jan – June and July – Dec) ship at the same time 🙌

If you are interested in goal setting and haven’t found the right system for you, I cannot recommend this journal enough!

4. Dub-Ins Designer Dubsado Template

Attention Dubsado users: stop what you are doing and buy this template right now. I’m literally giving you permission to stop reading this blog, leaving my website to buy this. It’s that good!

Collin Tierney is the genius behind this template that is completely customizable, beautiful and impressive. As a designer I’ve never been thrilled with the look of my Dubsado proposals and also never had the time to dig into coding a better version.

Enter the best $99 I’ve ever spent.

The Dub-Ins Designer Template took me a few hours to tweak and set up to my liking and now it takes me all of 15-20 minutes at the most to put together a BEAUTIFUL and impressive proposal. Collin also runs a Facebook group and shares free plugins and advice. Truly, one of the best investments!

5. Books

Until this year, reading was not part of my regular routine. When the pandemic hit, I started developing a morning routine to stay grounded. Here are some of my favorite books I read this year:

Investments I plan to make before the end of the year:

6. No Bullshit Systems Toolkit

This year I was connected with Alleyese through a client project and she is a badass entrepreneur who is authentic and honest. She and Luz Yacob teamed up to create an incredible toolkit for entrepreneurs who are ready to get their shit together before 2021.

Honeycomb will turn 5 next year but in my opinion, there is ALWAYS room to be a better leader, rethink your business and level up. That’s exactly why I’m investing in this toolkit.

7. AirPods Pro

Ugh, y’all. My AirPods are biting the dust and I am not thrilled about it. It’s time for me to upgrade and this is on my list to purchase this year. To be quite honest, I am so looking forward to the noise cancelling (goodbye leaf blowers and lawn mowers disrupting my focus).

Strangely enough, 2020 is the year I dug in and invested most in my business. I got clear on my focus and doubled down on ensuring things were running efficiently. I’m looking forward to starting 2021 on an organized, focused foot and all that’s ahead.

Tell me, what are your favorite business investments?
